Some Background about MIP’s Internship Program
MIP is a South African company. We serve many of South Africa’s leading Financial Services companies, as well as many international clients, and we do this using South African talent.
MIP is a net Exporter, which means we are genuinely empowering South Africa’s economy to grow by employing South African talent, rather than importing talent from the rest of the world, and bringing foreign revenue into South Africa.
To accomplish this, MIP took an important strategic decision over 14 years ago – to succeed in the long term, we must not just “use” South African talent, but we must help to create and grow South African talent. In this way, we are truly empowering local South Africans to become economically independent.
Most companies require recruits to have relevant education (diplomas, degrees, etc.) and extensive experience (years of work). While this approach is logical for the business, it automatically excludes many talented individuals whose circumstances have not allowed them to obtain the necessary education, nor the relevant experience. It requires individuals to empower themselves first.
MIP’s approach is to remove the obstacles that often prevent “raw talent” from being discovered, namely, expensive tertiary education and prior experience. Instead, we focus on the only real requirements for the work we do, which are:
-
Aptitude: The ability to understand and solve complex problems using simple, repeatable steps. This at the heart of what software developers do. MIP believes that this is a natural ability that some people are born with, just as others have natural abilities in other areas. It is an ability that may exist in anyone, regardless of your background or circumstances.
If this describes you – we are looking for you. -
Attitude: We focus on finding people who want to be economically independent, not just for themselves, but for their families, and the community. We want people who manage their time well, who are ambitious, want a career, not a job, who are energetic, ready to work hard, and who love to help others by solving problems for them. We want people who are honest and ethical in everything they do.
If this describes you – we are looking for you.
MIP searches for people with the right Attitude and the right Aptitude.
By creating an internship recruiting process that provides a “level playing field”, in the last 10 years over 500 Interns we have employed are:
-
71% Black / previously disadvantaged
-
23% Female
-
61% of those we have trained are still working at MIP.
